Groeling, UCLA associate professor of communications studies, is quoted today in a Los Angeles Times article about new data from the U.S. Census Bureau showing a dramatic increase in text messaging by Americans.


Kerri Johnson and Martie Haselton in the News!!

The research of Professors Martie Haselton and Kerri Johnson was recently featured in two science documentaries:  The Science of Sex Appeal aired on the Discovery Channel and described the biological bases for interpersonal attractions; What's the Problem with Nudity? aired as part of the BBC's Horizon series and described social and biological processes related to the human body. 

Greg Bryant and Martie Haselton in the News!!

Department of Communication Studies faculty members Greg Bryant and Martie Haselton recently had their research on vocal cues of ovulation in women covered by many media outlets including Time magazine, who named their study as one of the top 50 medical stories of 2008. Their research was covered by many newspapers and web publishers nationally and internationally including the Los Angeles Times, The Guardian and The Telegraph in the UK, The Sydney Morning Herald, Science Magazine, Science Daily, and WebMD.

Francis Steen awarded the 2008 Brian P. Copenhaver Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology

Francis Steen, Assistant Professor in Communication Studies, was awarded one of three Copenhaver Awards for 2008.  The Faculty Committee on Educational Technology notes that Professor Steen and Otto Santa Ana, Associate Professor in Chicano/o Studies "are being honored for their work in the Digital Civic Learning Initiative.
